    In Brazil, the newly enacted FELCA Law requires Operating Systems­including Linux, Windows, and certain BSD distributions, to implement regional blocking for ISO image downloads within the country. However, the law remains ambiguous; while it mandates restrictions for OS usage, it fails to specify the required methods for age verification, creating a significant legal 'gray area'.

    I'm not sure they are solving the issues of social media abusing adults and children by implementing laws like this.

    I think they should be targeting the social media platforms that wrote algorithyms to target people in a way that manipulates and hurts them instead of uplifting and helping them.

    But that's not the goal of those laws. It's to reduce anonymity on the Internet and it's one of the steps for Digital ID.

    It has absolutely nothing to do with "protecting the children".

    Yup. But doing that puts the onus on the social media platforms to know who is an adult and who is a child. They don't want that responsibility. So they would love it if the OS does it.

    I missed the first part of the post, but I'm assuming if they're going
    after iso image downloads, it's part of a money grab from media
    companies trying to get compensation for media piracy?

    In the USA, the recording industry negotiated a fund to be created from
    a charge on blank media produced, with the assumption that the only
    reason for recordable media was to pirate copyrighted music. Buy a CD-R
    for data backup or OS installation? You're paying the RIAA.

    Does that totally make sense when considering blank tapes. People could put their personal recordings on CD-R, voice or music, not just data. I thought CD-R and CD-RW was about media, kinda like floppy disc, or zip drive, it was just another media storage platform for storage and or distribution.

    True, but with PTP transfers, and knowing many countries don't care about US laws, just in the early days of encryption, and laws against exporting software outside of the US, these things always find a way around main channels.

    I haven't tracked the happenings around the movement, it died down from the main stream, as things like this usually do. Seems that's when the laws all pass, ... after the intial outrage.
