I like Libre Office because It does not have Co-Pilot!

Agreed. I don't need someone or something else to compose my thoughts,
ideas, and presentations. Plus, unlike Microsoft Office, it's free.

Hence why I said "personally". I never found myself needing to use a desktop office suite for any such task. I usually just use overleaf/sharelatex if I'm writing something that needs printing, otherwise I am not really used to office apps outside of "collaboratively editing docs or spreadsheets at work". I'm sure other users find more value in having office installed, I haven't since I was in high school

a request for information, or a letter to an official organization or something? That's not collaborative, it's just personal. Not
everything involves multiple people.

These days such activities are done via email. Even resumes are often submitted as plain text via email.

I think what he might be getting at is multiple tabs within the same app window vs. different & separate app windows.

In my line of work, I've never submitted a plain text resume, and usually don't submit it via email. Most of the time, I'm filling out a job application online, which includes uploading my resume to the site during the application process, and I have a resume in PDF format that I use. I suppose I could use a plain text format for my resume, as it doesn't include anything too fancy, but just thought PDF looks a little better (in addition, things like underlines would take an entirely separate line in plain text format, whereas you can have underlined text in a PDF document).

I've submitted very few resumes via email; I've seen relatively few job postings for my type of work that instruct to send a resume to an email address rather than having an online application to fill out & upload my resume.

it's always pdf. or should be.
if someone pastes their resume into an email instead of a pdf attachment, they dont want the job.

My daughter is applying for first jobs, and we helped her with a
resume. She opted for the heavy-weight, bone-colored fancy paper.
Reminded me of my first resumes, thinking back, I don't know where I
would have printed them -- I had a crappy 9-pin dot matrix printer.

Waitaminute - I got my first job doing accounting data entry by showing
up. My next job was the one that I needed a resume for, and we had
LaserWriters at the first job. I worked opening and closing shifts
managing a midrange computer, so I usually had an hour and a half
without any other employees around.

I don't like that either, but the ones that parse your resume to fill out the form automatically usually don't do it very well, so you end up having to do a lot of it manually anyway.

My son is just starting out in employment with a college degree, and was complaining about having to apply to a handful of companies. He got a
paid internship that's lasted a year and keeps getting extended.

I showed him my OneNote "Job Search" notebook, I sent out something like
130+ resumes after I was laid off in 2016 - and I know people who've
sent many more. I hope I saw all of the poorly done candidate intake
processes then.

One company that was hiring for a video conferencing manager wanted you
to send them a video of you -- mind you, this is for a behind the camera position, not on-camera talent!
